# ScrapingBee YouTube Subtitles API

> Retrieve subtitles for one YouTube video through the direct API.

## Endpoint and authentication

- Endpoint: `https://app.scrapingbee.com/api/v1/youtube/subtitles`
- Required input: `video_id`.
- Authentication: `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY`.
- The `api_key` query parameter remains supported for backward compatibility but is deprecated for new integrations.
- Cost: 5 credits per request.

## Parameters and response

- `language` is an ISO language code.
- `subtitle_origin` is `auto_generated` or `uploader_provided`.
- `tag` is optional, is returned in response headers, and does not change scraping behavior.
- A requested language with no matching subtitles returns `404`.
- The response separates `subtitles.auto_generated` and `subtitles.uploader_provided`, keyed by language, with timestamped text runs (`start_ms`, `d_duration_ms`, and `snippet.runs[].text`).
- The source does not document per-request retry behavior for this endpoint. Use client retries only with an idempotent retry policy.
- This API is direct-API-only in the documented client surfaces: no CLI command, Remote MCP tool, LangChain tool, or dedicated Make, n8n, or Zapier action is documented.
